The Ink Trail.jpg

11th of April to 18th of April 2022

Arta is thrilled to invite you for a group show with originals drawings and prints made by Andreas von Buddenbrock, and paintings by Francesco Lietti and Ewa Budka. The show is titled "Ai Yah" depicting pieces of ordinary days, from what we see as a day-by-day business on the streets to basic emotions and desires that we all experience daily. The exhibition is running from the 11th to 18th April 2022.

With Ai Yah, Andreas von Buddenbrock aka The Ink Trail provides a detailed look into some of the things that make Hong Kong such a unique location, both to live in and to explore. Though most of us would agree that it’s a very special place, we rarely stop and look at the things that make it stand out from its peers. While the sight of a local cab might serve as instantly recognizable imagery to those only vaguely familiar with the city, cluttered appliance shops, repair garages, and structures built in symbiosis with their surrounding nature may strike a cord with those who are fortunate enough to call Hong Kong their home.

The four pieces included in "Ai Yah" were all originally created using Micron and Zebra ink pens. An avid observer of his surroundings, each drawing was made from subjects observed in Andreas ’daily life, as well as his many explorations around Hong Kong. “Taxi” and “Wong Chuk Hang” are both limited edition prints made from the detailed live-drawings of his wide collection of sketchbooks while “Taxi Repair” and “North Point Business” are part of a new series about local Hong Kong businesses, taking around forty and sixty hours to complete respectively.

Francesco Lietti's paintings hover between reality and fantasy, capturing Hong Kong's unique cityscape. Using strong blocks of paint to represent the buildings, Lietti also includes smaller patches of textured color, which dance across the cityscape, giving it that dream-like, ephemeral quality. The artist works in acrylic and oils on canvas and also adds collage to give even more texture and depth. He then finishes his pieces with a thick, glossy resin, further enhancing the brightness of the colors.

Ewa Budka captures her own stories - emotions which, like a tattoo on human skin are visible on her abstract paintings. Budka explores the complexity of having an international career as an artist, art director, model, and recently also as a mom, and all which goes with it, the bad and good times - heartbreaks, frustration, happiness, and love.

Budka said “A sheet of plywood, a playable natural material perfectly fit for the practice of Mokulito, becomes a symbol for the human body in my project because, like our bodies, it is able to record and store the effects of external forces—touches, scratches, marks. Plywood also supports my free, gestural drawing and carving, and allows me to print from its surface, pour on latex, peel, draw more and carve again.”

Squared of Urban Jungle.jpg

22nd to 28th February 2022 at Arta

Arta is thrilled to present a solo show  ‘Urban Jungle’, featuring Francesco Lietti’s mixed-media paintings and digital art.

Lietti’s inspiration lies deeply in his free spirit, the curiosity of discovering new cultures, and everything behind it: fascinated by the variety of colors, the rich smells, and the plethora of images he was drawn to return and stay.

The solo exhibition Urban Jungle depicts three series; Cityscape, Abstracted, and the newest series Legno. All the collections depict the artist's love for this vibrant, eclectic city - Hong Kong where he lives and is complemented by the symbiosis of travel and discovery around the South East Asia region. Finally, for the exhibition, the artist prepared also a digital in form of NFTs art which combines with his iconic cityscape series.

His paintings hover between reality and fantasy. Lietti also captures the colors and delights of other Asian destinations. The lush greens of Vietnam and Bali, the golden sunsets of Rajasthan, the deep blue seascapes of the Philippines, are just some of the many places he has visited and experienced. The artist gives us rare glimpses, merging reality with a magical world.

Francesco Lietti was born in Lecco on the southern shore of Lake Como in Italy. He studied architecture in Milan and furthered his studies in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts, La Seine, and also at the Clerkenwell College of Printing in London. His works are featured in private collections worldwide. When not painting in his studio, Francesco is probably riding his motorbike on the Hong Kong hills trying to catch a new view or traveling across Asia in search of inspiration.

11th November to 16 December 2021 at Gallery HZ

Arta, in partnership with Gallery HZ, is thrilled to present the group exhibition - ‘skin in the game’ featuring mixed media paintings by Ewa Budka,  Javier Martin & Ewelina Skowrońska,  photography works by Chong-Il Woo.

Profoundly inspired by human nature - sexuality, emotions and desires the “skin in the game” exhibition metaphorically and literally presents the complexity of womanhood in today's ambiguous world. The artists adopted different mediums and styles to inquire into the role of women in a cross-cultural contemporary society.

Through their artistic creations, viewers may have opportunities to explore the ideas of female outer and inner beauty, how women are shown in today's world of social media and advertising, as well in daily life, and finally what women need to give to be considered “beautiful”.

The show is co-curated by Natalia Mota, founder of Arta, and Fiona Ho co-founder and Director of Gallery HZ. The two join together to celebrate fresh, full-of-energy art that talks about femininity and all the emotions, desires, and inspiration of today's woman.

Mota said “I adore the exploration of inner and outer beauty, the waves of emotions, human connections, and sexuality which these artists bring into artworks. Perhaps due to my background in fashion and life-long love for art, it was inevitable to create an exhibition that connects both worlds. What is also very important is, equality to tell stories from different points of view by female and male eyes, by artists who work all around the world. We are all different and we wanted to show contrasting perspectives and ideas.” Mota also added “As I’m Polish, I have the great pleasure to present a few international artists with Polish roots, who are conquering the world from Warsaw, New York to Tokyo. I'm also very honored that the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Hong Kong is the official patron of this exhibition and is bringing additional events celebrating Polish women and their achievements.”
